A local business owner is in jail facing first-degree assault charges after shooting another individual Friday morning.

Richard Fedewa, 37, was arrested by Campbellsville Police Friday and lodged in the Taylor County Detention Center just after 2 p.m.

The shooting occurred just before 11:30 a.m. on Friday.

Fedewa, who lists himself as the owner of the Towne Motel in Campbellsville on his Facebook page, was taken into custody after law enforcement responded to a call of shots fired in the area of Gowdy Street.

Officers confronted Fedewa behind the Towne Motel and he was taken into custody without incident, according to a Campbellsville Police Department report.

As officers responded, a resident at 110 Gowdy Street reported that he had been shot. The victim was able to identify Fedewa as the shooter.

The individual that was shot, who remains unnamed in a release from the Campbellsville Police Department, was transported from the scene to Taylor Regional Hospital for treatment of possibly life-threatening injuries.

Initial calls to dispatch stated that the victim suffered a gunshot wound to the upper chest area.

The victim was then flown to the University of Louisville Trauma Center for further treatment.

As of press time, no details had yet been released regarding the identity of the victim or any details regarding what may have led up to the shooting.

As more details are released, they will be made available.

Detectives Ben Riggs and Nelson Bishop are the investigating officers on the case.
