Drop tilts to Marion, Russell counties

By Bobby Brockman

In a bad omen and a sign of things to come, Campbellsville’s 9-10-year-old Little League All Stars had the bases loaded with no outs in the bottom of the first and fell to Marion County 7-1.
The start came in the opening encounter of the District 5 Little League Tournament at Idle Hour Park in Springfield at noon on Saturday.
Marion County had used three hits and three Campbellsville errors to lead 3-0 in their first at-bat and added three more in the second for a 6-0 cushion.
Campbellsville got a first-inning infield hit from Cole Wright and added two more singles in the third on hits by Josh Gaddis and Roger Oliver, but had a runner thrown out at the plate.
After Marion County went up 7-1 in the top of the sixth, Campbellsville avoided the shut-out when Chase Hord singled and scored on Wright’s sacrifice fly.
Campbellsville was eliminated on Monday night by Russell County 5-2.
The locals led 2-1 before Marion County posted a four-run fifth frame.
