Let's have a safe Fourth of July

-A A +A

CKNJ Editorial Board

Fireworks fans no longer need to travel to Tennessee or another state to buy fireworks. We can purchase them right here in Taylor County.

A new amendment to state law allows us to have fireworks that shoot into the air. While we have an opportunity for more fun, we also have the responsibility for safety.

Adults should set a good example for the younger generation when enjoying the sight and sounds of fireworks. Be sure to light fireworks in a safe area, away from buildings and animals.

When purchasing fireworks, ask what is in the package and what the expected outcome is for each item. Some fireworks stay on the ground and are fairly safe while others shoot up and out and can be hazardous to not only those lighting the fuse but those who may have gathered to see the show.

Through the years, our community has been relatively safe regarding the use of fireworks. Let's not be different this year.

Whether lighting your own show or going to Miller Park to enjoy the July Fourth Celebration, be safe and have a great time.
