Lebanon man charged with more than 1,000 counts of possession of pornography

A registered sex offender has been accused of more than 1,000 counts of possession of child pornography after allegedly moving from Campbellsville to Lebanon without notifying probation and parole staff.

Michael W. Bolter, of 261 Kobert Ave., was arrested Tuesday at 6:04 p.m.

According to Bolter’s arrest citation, he allegedly submitted his address to the Kentucky Sex Offender Registry as 137 Honeygale in Campbellsville.

Bolter is accused of moving from the Honeygale address to his Kobert Avenue home on Jan. 25.

A Taylor County Sheriff’s Department news release states that deputies executed an undercover operation that found Bolter allegedly had photos and videos depicting children in sexual performances.

After Bolter was arrested for allegedly moving without permission, his vehicle and computer were seized.

On Jan. 30, according to the report, deputies completed an examination of Bolter’s computer and allegedly found 1,021 photos and videos of children from the age of 1 to 15 being sexually abused and about 900 child erotic images.

Bolter was initially charged with failure to comply with his sex offender registration terms, his second offense, which is a Class C felony punishable by as much as 10 years in prison.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge in Taylor District Court on Thursday. He was appointed a public defender and bond was set at $10,000. Bolter is scheduled to appear in court again on Wednesday.

After the undercover investigation, Bolter was charged with 1,021 counts of possession of matter portraying the sexual performance of a minor and 1,021 counts of prohibited use of electronic means to procure a minor in reference to a sexual offense. The offenses are Class D felonies, punishable by as much as five years in prison each.

According to the Kentucky State Police Online Sex Offender Registry, Bolter is a lifetime registrant who moved to Campbellsville from Ohio. He was convicted of selling sexual material to a minor and possession of child pornography in Massachusetts.
