Campbellsville University will go on the road to defend two straight NCCAA Mid-East Championships this week when the Volley Tigers travel to Indiana with pool play beginning on Thursday.
“The team has been working very hard in practice,” coach Amy Eckenfels said. “They understand we have been given a great opportunity to compete in the NCCAA region at Oakland City and hopefully advance to the nationals.”
The No. 2 seed Lady Tigers (21-14) are matched with host Oakland City (20-4) and Tennessee Temple (11-20) in Pool B. Oakland City is seeded third and Tennessee Temple sixth.
No. 1 seed Asbury (38-7) heads up Pool A along with Trevecca Nazarene (18-13) and Covenant College (22-7), seeded fourth and fifth, respectively.
Campbellsville will play Tennessee Temple at 3:00 on Thursday and then turn around at 5 and play Oakland City.
On Friday at noon the No. 1 seed in Pool A will play the No. 2 seed from Pool B, and the Pool B winner will face the runner-up from Pool A.
The winners of those two matches will pair off for the championship, scheduled for 2:30.
Campbellsville won the NCCAA tournament in 2009 and was runner-up last year, losing to Indiana Wesleyan in the finals in Kissimmee, Fla. The Lady Tigers won the region in Stone Mountain, Ga. in 2009 and then again last year when the region was held at King College in Bristol, Tenn.
