Marion County scored the first 22 points in the 20th District Tournament on Tuesday night and rolled to a 71-36 victory over Taylor County in John Burr Memorial Gymnasium at Adair County High School.
Brooke Roberts started the Lady Knight onslaught with three first-quarter three-pointers and the Lady Cardinals did not remove the zero from the scoreboard until Marsha Kessler hit a pair of charity tosses with 7:07 left in the second quarter.
Taylor County's first hoop came on Mercedes Cox's three-pointer with 3:32 before the half.
Four of Marion County's starters reached double figures - Roberts, a sophomore, led the way with 18 points on five treys and three free throws while eighth-graders Makyala Epps and Kyvin Goodin-Rogers had 16 and 14 points, respectively, and freshman Breanna Elder tossed in 11 for the 24-6 Lady Knights.
Cox led Taylor County (13-13) with 13 points, including 6-6 at the line, while MeLeigha Pollock added eight and Hope Wigginton seven.
Marion County will play Adair County for its third straight 20th District Tournament title tomorrow at 7:30.
