Lady Knights claim sixth straight district title

-A A +A

Four MCHS starters reach double digits.

By Bobby Brockman

Only one team had won five straight Girls’ 20th District Tournament titles and now there is only one with six in a row as Marion County’s Lady Knights (28-4) accomplished the feat with a 70-47 romp over Adair County in the district championship encounter on Friday night at Taylor County High School.
Coach Trent Milby’s club   held leads of 6-0, 14-2 and 22-6 before Kyvin Goodin-Rogers’ three-pointer at the half-time horn made it 40-18. The Lady Knights’ lead grew to as many as 36 (58-22) before Adair County scored nine of the final 11 points in the third quarter and claimed the fourth frame 16-10.
Goodin-Rogers led a balanced MCHS attack with 19 points while Makayla Epps, the tourney’s Most Outstanding Player, had 15, Bre Elder 12 and Logan Powell 10.
Katie Keltner had 20 for Adair County (25-5) while Mercedes Cox had 15 for Adair County. The Lady Indians played without two senior starters with knee injuries — Chanley Otterson who missed the last two weeks of the season and Hali Wheat, who was injured in the first-round win over Taylor County.
