Green County’s Lady Dragons scored three runs in the first inning and held up for a 3-2 championship-game triumph in the Fifth Region Softball Tournament on Wednesday night.
It was the Lady Dragons’ third title in the last five years as coach Jeff Walker’s club also wore the crowns in 2010 and 2012.
Green County reached the finals by conquering Elizabethtown 8-1 on Monday and Bethlehem 5-2 on Tuesday while the Lady Bruins had run-ruled LaRue County 12-2 and edged Taylor County 2-1.
Central Hardin won the titles in 2013 over North Hardin and 2011 vs. LaRue County.
The two teams powerhouses have combined to win the last five Fifth Region titles.
Green County advances to the Worth/KHSAA Fast Pitch Softball State Tournament Thursday through Sunday at Jack C. Fisher Park in Owensboro.
The Lady Dragons (27-10) battle Third Region victor Owensboro Apollo on Thursday at 8 (ET) in the 16-team, double-elimination field.
Green County will play the winner or loser of the Estill County-Highlands game on Friday morning.
The Lady Dragons have won 117 of 149 games over the last four seasons while Central Hardin has been 131-29-1.
