Taylor County never overcame a 7-0 Adair County start and dropped a 55-37 decision to the Lady Indians on Friday night in Columbia.

The Lady Cardinals (1-2) did not score until 2:30 left in the first quarter on Cayla Rucker's three-pointer and trailed by as many as 14 in the first half and trailed 26-16 at half-time.

Baskets by MeLeigha Pollock and Mercedes Cox cut the intermission deficit to 26-16.

Taylor County cut the margin to seven on Pollock's trey starting the third quarter, but Adair County reeled off eight straight points to go back up by 15 (34-19) and never led by less than double digits the rest of the night.

Hope Wigginton, who scored seven second-quarter points, had four more in an early fourth-quarter rally before the Lady Indians used a pair of Chelsea Beard buckets to go back up by 19.

Wigginton led the Lady Cardinals with 13 points while Cox had eight in her first varsity start and Pollock added seven.

Chene Smith paced Adair County (2-2) with 16 points while Carli Burton contributed 11, all in the second half, and Hannah Peck had eight.

Taylor County played Estill County in the Three Bank Classic over the weekend at Garrard County and will visit Green County on Friday.
