By Bobby Brockman

Taylor County never trailed in its cross-town battle with Campbellsville in girls’ basketball on Friday.
However, as the clock wound down the home-standing Lady Eagles had sliced a 14-point deficit down to seven to fall 43-36.
“This game scared me,” TCHS coach Whitney Hooper said. “I knew they were capable of scoring some points and we needed to get this one and next one to get to 7-5.”
Taylor County used a 12-1 run to lead 18-6 and never led by as few as seven until the final horn.
Freshman point guard Rachel Shoemaker led the Lady Cardinals with 14 points while senior guard Becca Orberson collected 11 rebounds and dished out five assists.
Eighth-grader Vonnea Smith had 12 points and seven rebounds for the Lady Eagles and freshman Brenna Wethington had 10 rebounds.
“We just missed way too many lay-ups in order to have a chance to win,” Campbellsville coach Richard Dooley said of his squad which did out-point Taylor County 15-10 in the final eight minutes.
Taylor County played at Fort Knox on Saturday and will visit Green County on Tuesday while Campbellsville goes to Pulaski County on Monday and will host McCreary Central in a make-up encounter on Tuesday.
East Jessamine comes to Taylor County on Thursday while Fort Knox will be at Campbellsville.
