Lady Cards decisive in fourth

TCHS girls improve to 2-0 with 54-46 victory over Meade.

Taylor County’s Lady Cardinals used a 20-11 fourth quarter to overcome Meade County 54-46 at home on Thursday night.

The Lady Cards (2-0) trailed 8-2 early before Cayla Rucker hit a free throw and Elizabeth Thomas two lay-ups around a pair of Hope Wigginton three-pointers.

The Lady Waves fought back to a 24-24 deadlock at halftime and led 35-34 heading to the final eight minutes.

However, Taylor County took the lead for good on Wigginton’s left base-line trey and used a Rucker three, her fifth of the night, to lead 45-40.

Mercedes Cox hit two free throws and Rucker six more down the stretch to ice the victory.

Rucker finished with a game-high 26 points while Wigginton added 10 and Thomas eight.

Meade County jumped out to a huge lead and held on to triumph 32-26 in the junior varsity encounter.

Alanna Claywell led Taylor County with 13 points and Marsha Kessler had 11.

The Lady Cardinals played Male at Central Hardin on Saturday and will visit Campbellsville tomorrow (6:00) and entertain Adair County on Friday (6:30) in the opening games of girl/boy 20th District doubleheaders.
