TCHS junior Ellen Kehoe repeats as individual champ

By Bobby Brockman

Ellen Kehoe repeated as the Heartland Athletic Conference individual champion and Taylor County’s Lady Cardinals waltzed to the team championship on Sept. 10 at The Pines at Lindsey Wilson Country Club in Columbia.
Kehoe, who took top honors last year with a 69, fired a 70 this time around to spark the Lady Cardinals, who also got second- and third-place showings from Kayla Rodgers (76) and Carlie Hazel (82). Rounding out the TCHS scoring were 86s (tied for fifth) by Sarah Dickens and Rylee Beard. All five TCHS players were tabbed all-conference.
Taylor County’s title broke Green County’s four-year conference run. The Lady Cardinals also own titles in 2006 and 2008 and it was TCHS’ ninth title in the 19-year history of the Heartland tourney. (Green County also has worn nine crowns with Marion County taking the other title in 1996.)
Kehoe is the fifth lady to earn at least two crowns, joining Cassidy Scantland (Green County), Lauren Goodin (Adair County), Cheslee Elkins (Green County) and Stephanie Garrett (Marion County).
Adair County (308) won its third boys’ title in the last four years behind the play of Austin Cundiff, the individual champion, and last year’s winner, Riley Grant, who tied for the top spot with 74s.
Taylor County (335), led by Andrew Scalos (82), Cooper Parks (83) and McKinley Knopp (84), finished second.
