Kentucky Heartland Outreach will be awarded a grant from the Affordable Housing Trust Fund administered by the Kentucky Housing Corporation.

As a result, KHO is currently taking applications from low-income families in Taylor and Green counties who are in need of home repair. The repairs will be completed in the summer of 2008 and are totally free of charge to the homeowner.

The deadline for applications is Feb. 29.

Repairs will be completed with volunteers at no cost to the homeowner. KHO coordinates different summer camps for each home's repairs with volunteers from church youth groups from all over the nation. KHO hires 10 to 15 additional staff in the summer to help run the summer camps. The additional staff are college students who will receive a two-week intensive training for the repairs on which they will be working.

KHO is a ministry of Campbellsville University. Campbellsville University provides funding every year for KHO general operations. KHO began as a student-led ministry at Campbellsville University until it received its non-profit status in 2003.

The camps begin on a Sunday and end on the following Saturday. Thursday nights are an important night of the camps. A banquet is held in honor of the homeowners so that they can get to know the volunteers who have been repairing their homes. The homeowners are also presented with a picture of the crew who worked on their home.
