June is already a busy month in Taylor County

-A A +A

By Taylor County Judge-Executive Eddie Rogers

We just had one of our most active weekends in June here in Taylor County. This included Kids Outdoor Day with well more than 1,600 children to participate. We also had the 400-mile yard sale come through our county.

The Taylor County Fair started on June 2 with the horse show. It was one of the biggest horse shows that the fair has had in quite a while. The fair will still be going on June 7, 8 and 9.  We all should support our community and go out to the Taylor County Fair.

We will soon have our second reading of our budget to finalize for the next fiscal year. This budget will be about $9.8 million.

In this budget, we will have about $800,000 to $900,000 to blacktop our county roads. If you have any concerns on your road, you should contact your magistrate with any of your requests. This does not include the flex money that we will be receiving from the state for various roads.

We always look to see what we can do for our citizens to improve or repair the worst roads in Taylor County or the ones that would benefit from the repairs in the coming year.

We will not be able to do any road work until after July 1. You can always talk to me or your magistrate about your concerns on any county issue. Taylor County Fiscal Court meetings are on the second Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m., unless there is a conflict to reschedule a different date.

We have committee meetings periodically to discuss issues in the county that may need other attention before our regular scheduled Court meeting, but then we bring them up at the following Court meeting if there is anything to discuss.

We just had our Treasure Finder’s event and there were quite a few people that participated. It was very successful.

If you have any questions on this, please feel free to contact my office.

We just had the wall-breaking ceremony for the new location of the Taylor County Public Library.

The Taylor County Animal Shelter has had a few delays in the final leg of completion. This should be finished in July.

This is the time that we need to be cautious during the summer season. The children are out for their break and we should be aware of them. The children are our future.

We should utilize our lakes, creeks and streams. We should be safe on the water and follow the rules. We have a hidden jewel with our section of Green River. Hopefully in the near future we can be able to get a lodge for our area.

Let us not forget that July Fourth will be just around the corner. This is one of our favorite federal holidays which commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence.  Our Fourth of July celebration is one of the biggest is the surrounding area. The events are from dawn to dusk. They will be having the hot air balloons this year.

The parade kicks off at 10 a.m. The 23rd annual tractor show will be between 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. and there will be several activities for the whole family and ending with the fireworks.

Again, I say thank you, Taylor County, for letting me serve as your county judge/executive. As always, my door is always open. You can contact me at my office at 465-7729.
