Jenny Jessie is sliding over one seat, but it's a seat she's quite familiar with.
Jessie was formally hired as the head basketball coach for the Taylor County Lady Cardinals on Tuesday night, but it was a move almost everyone knew would happen when David Parsons announced his retirement near the start of the 2007-2008 season.
"I am very excited and honored to have this opportunity," Jessie said. "I think Taylor County basketball is a program that can be built into a force across the region.
"We have a great deal of young talent that has lots of varsity experience."
Jessie, the former Jenny Teater, turned into a solid basketball player at Campbellsville University, where she also excelled in tennis, after a stand-out career at Garrard County High School.
After a couple of seasons on Ginger Colvin's staff at Campbellsville High School, Teater then took over as head coach at her alma mater where she guided the Lady Lions to a 42-40 record over three seasons. Her 2004-2005 squad won the Campbellsville University/Coca-Cola Holiday Classic at CHS.
After marrying Scott Jessie, Jenny returned to Campbellsville where she was an assistant under Parsons the last two campaigns.
"I appreciate Coach Parsons and all of his help and hope to continue to build this program into a program that competes night in and night out.
"We are going to work hard to get everything we can get from the people on our team.
There have been several great coaches and athletes here at this program before me. We want to honor and continue that tradition."
Jessie inherits a team that was 10-19 last season and did not graduate any players.
She becomes the eighth coach in Lady Cardinal hoop history.
