An inmate at the Taylor County Detention Center has been charged with having drugs in his possession.

Leonard H. Williams, 25, of 33 Cornett Lane in Hazard, was charged Thursday, Jan. 10, at 1:50 a.m.

According to Williams' arrest citation, he allegedly received a controlled substance in a card he received in the mail from an address in Louisville.

Court records state that Williams told jail staff members that he doesn't know anyone from Louisville and didn't know about the controlled substance.

The Louisville address, records state, belongs to a man who died in Nashville, Tenn., in 2010.

Williams was charged with second-degree promoting contraband, a misdemeanor offense.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge in Taylor District Court on Wednesday. He was appointed a public defender and is scheduled to appear in court again for a pretrial conference on Jan. 28.
