A Campbellsville man has been arrested and charged with assault after he allegedly fought with and injured Taylor County Detention Center staff.

Mario Thompson, 21, of 418 Bowman St. was being questioned by probation and parole officers because he had failed to report a new arrest.

The citation states that Thompson pulled away from the officers and fled on foot to Baptist Street, where Campbellsville Police Officer Ben Riggs and Detective Travis Begley chased and eventually arrested him.

A half-hour later, Thompson was arrested on additional charges of assault after allegedly fighting with Campbellsville Police officers and Taylor County Detention Center staff when he was being escorted to his cell at the detention center.

The citation states that Thompson allegedly caused minor injury to Riggs' hand and grabbed several probation and parole and detention center staff.

Thompson was charged with five counts of third-degree assault, second-degree fleeing or evading police and resisting arrest.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges in Taylor District Court on Friday, Jan. 9. No bond was set.

On Wednesday, Jan. 14, the charges against Thompson were held to a Taylor County grand jury for possible indictment.
