Sparked by a 3-1 start on Friday morning, the United States team defeated the European squad 16 1/2 to 11 1/2 to win back the 37th Ryder Cup over the weekend at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville.

Campbellsville's J.B. Holmes played in the four-ball competition on Friday and Saturday with Boo Weekley and halved a match on Friday before winning 2 and 1 on Saturday.

Holmes, playing seventh, then was an integral winning part of the U.S. contingent that won the singles' matches 7 1/2 to 4 1/2 on Sunday to clinch the Cup.

It was the Americans' first Ryder Cup crown since 1999.

Holmes' reaction to the support from Campbellsville fans and friends appears on page 1B along with match-by-match scores. More pictures from the practice rounds appear on pages 1B and 3B.
