Today marks a new era for Campbellsville Health & Fitness Center.

The center opened at its new location at 1951 Old Columbia Road this morning. And with the new location comes new benefits for members.

Wayne Johnson, who owns the center with his wife Marsha, said Campbellsville is about 20 years behind in the fitness industry.

"What Campbellsville has right now is two gyms," Johnson said. "This is going to be a full health club."

And in order to realize those plans, Johnson said, a new location was needed.

"My wife and I bought the gym in May of last year and we've been looking for a new location since then," Johnson said.

While the new building is about the same size as the previous location in Central Plaza, Johnson said the new layout will allow them to offer a few more things.

The new site boasts an indoor basketball gym and a larger classroom space. For the first time, Johnson said, he'll offer a weight training 101 class.

"A lot of people ask, 'What do I do with this stuff?'" Johnson said.

The class will demonstrate proper weight training techniques so that all Campbellsville Health & Fitness Center members get the most out of their workouts.

All of the services health club members are accustomed to such as showers, saunas, child care, a full service deli and massage therapy will be featured at the new site, Johnson said.

The cardio area, Johnson said, will eventually become a "cardio theater" where members can use the machines while watching movies.

A 1997 graduate of Campbellsville High School, Johnson obtained his bachelor of science degree in exercise science and sports medicine from the University of Louisville, where he graduated with honors.

Marsha Lee Johnson is a 1998 graduate of Taylor County High School. She also graduated with honors from the University of Louisville in 2004 and obtained a bachelor of science degree in health and human performance. At her commencement, Marsha was recognized as the College of Education's most outstanding student.
