When Martha and Carroll Stein married in 1945, she never dreamed that 20 short years later she would be a widow faced with raising four children alone.
Her husband, Carroll, a professor at Campbellsville College for 16 years, died unexpectedly of a heart attack in 1965. Being fiercely independent and possessing a strong Christian faith, Stein was determined to raise her children just as she had planned when she married, her son Fred said.
