Taylor County has been blessed with regard to the arts.

The Central Kentucky Arts Series and Campbellsville University already provide many unique opportunities. And, now, the annual Music in the Park concert series is kicking off its new year.

Sponsored by Greater Campbellsville United, the City of Campbellsville and Taylor Fiscal Court, Music in the Park brings a series of free musical performances to Miller Park's amphitheater on Fridays in September.

And each week features a different type of music.

Arts and humanities always seems to be the first to take a hit when schools have to make cuts due to decreased funding. That's why it's great that events such as Music in the Park offer other avenues for children to become exposed to the arts.

And free isn't a word that's used much anymore, especially when it comes to entertainment. That's all the more reason to take advantage of the annual Music in the Park series.

The series was scheduled to kick off Friday, though that concert was canceled.

This Friday, Gifted Soul will perform with the Motown Sound.

The event on Friday, Sept. 18 will feature gospel music with a performance by Break Through and First Baptist Church's Mime Group.

The final event, Friday, Sept. 25, will feature country and international music.

All performances are from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Those who plan to attend should bring chairs and blankets.

Why not gather the family, grab a snack or drinks, a few chairs or a blanket and spend the evening under the stars while listening to Music in the Park?
