First UMC welcomes new pastor

First United Methodist Church has a new pastor.

The Rev. Ron Young was appointed to serve as senior pastor in June by the Kentucky Annual Conference.

He and his wife Linda are both graduates of Asbury College. Young received his M. Div. from Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Ky., and has served churches in the Kentucky conference including St. Paul in Frankfort, Park UMC in Lexington and Crescent Hill in Louisville.

Linda taught high school English and was a professor and director of secondary education at Asbury College.

Ron has served in several leadership and teaching positions within the annual conference, including secretary of the Kentucky Annual Conference, dean of the School of Christian Mission, trustee at Kentucky United Methodist Homes, instructor at Lay Speakers School, district disaster emergency coordinator, president of the board of directors for Kentucky Conference Credit Union, Volunteers in Mission and dean/leader of bicycle camp for Aldersgate Camp.

He has also been a member of various community organizations and ministries, including Kiwanis, ministerial associations, Poverty in our Midst, Habitat for Humanity, Appalachian Service Project, Flood Relief and World Day of Prayer.

For the last two years, Ron was appointed to the South Georgia Conference and was pastor of Bemiss UMC while Linda was a professor at Valdosta State University. Now that the couple is back in Kentucky, Linda will be a professor of education at Lindsey Wilson College.
