Feb. 27, 2003

Carl and Ella Holmes will celebrate their 56th wedding anniversary on Saturday, March 1.

Sierra DeMurray celebrated her fifth birthday on Jan. 30 at her home with her family and friends. She is the daughter of Jason and Kay DeMurray of Campbellsville. She also has a sister, Megan Perkins.

Team Taylor County Executive Director Kevin Sheilly received Union University's Outstanding Young achiever Award on Feb. 15 in Jackson, Tenn.

Laura Freeman has been named one of the five states' Acteen Panelists for 2003.

Ryan and Dynetta Hamilton of Campbellsville announce the birth of a son, Lathan Ryan, on Friday, Feb. 7, at 6:27 p.m. at Norton Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.

Feb. 22, 1993

Alyssa Shea Kearnes, the 23-month-old daughter of Keith and Lisa Kearnes, was crowned 1993 Glamour Doll Valentine Sweetheart on Sunday, Feb. 14.

Christine Lynn McClure and Stephen Mark Raikes will marry on Saturday.

Shannon R. Thomas of Campbellsville has been named to the dean's list at Lexington Community College.

Feb. 21, 1983

Mr. and Mrs. Trent Graham of 626 Lebanon Ave. announce the birth of a daughter, Erika Renee, on Saturday, Feb. 12, at Taylor County Hospital.

Mr. and Mrs. Twister Garrison of Frankfort spent Tuesday of last week here with Mrs. Garrison's mother, Mrs. Porter Hord.

FORTY YEARS AGO

Feb. 21, 1973

Michael J. Harmon, 22, has been appointed program director for radio WLCK in Scottsville.

Tony and Troy Vaughn celebrated their second birthdays on Wednesday with a party at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Vaughn, Route 2.

Josephine Cox returned on Wednesday from a 10-day visit to San Juan, Puerto Rico, where her daughter, Cindy, is based as a stewardess with Eastern Air Lines.

Feb. 21, 1963

The Asian flu is taking its toll this week with absenteeism mounting in schools, at the factory and all about.

Mrs. Dennis Eubank died unexpectedly on Tuesday at Adair Memorial Hospital.

Ernest Knopp, 74, died at 8 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 17, at Rosary Hospital after a long illness.

Feb. 19, 1953

Funeral for Sara Eva Gozder, wife of News-Journal publisher J.P. Gozder, was last Sunday at Edelen-Lyon Funeral Home.

Funeral for Louise Richerson York, 30, was on Saturday, Feb. 14.

Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Bowen, city, are the parents of a boy, Randy, born on Feb. 21.

A surprise birthday dinner was given for Joe Newton at his home on Sunday, Feb. 1.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Scott and family of Fern Creek were the weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Pruitt.

Feb. 18, 1943

Mrs. Marshall Lyon left on Friday for a visit to her husband, Marshall, at Newport News, Va., where he is serving with the Navy.

Shirley Ann Ellis, the daughter of Mrs. Louise Ellis, gave a Valentine party at her home on Central Avenue last Saturday evening. There were four tables set for Rook and all enjoyed the evening.

Mrs. Walter Hoskins was seriously injured on Monday afternoon about 6 o'clock when she fell on the ice near Monson's store.

EIGHTY YEARS AGO

February 1933

T.S. Collins of Robbins, Tenn., formerly of this city, died at his home here on Tuesday. Collins was born and reared in this city.

Mrs. Hattie Graham Craig, 33, died at her home in Indianapolis.

NINETY YEARS AGO

February 1923

Maggie Issac and S.T. Bennett, both of this county, were married here last week.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. B.H. Hord on Feb. 10 was a daughter, Edna Mildred.

Messrs. Fred Nance and Fulton Netherland left last week for a business trip to Akron, Ohio.

A HUNDRED YEARS AGO

Feb. 12, 1913

Fannie Parrott, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Parrott of this county, and Tucker Curry, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Curry, also of this county, were married last Saturday at Indianapolis, Ind.

Dr. B.T. Black left yesterday for Louisville on business.

Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Wood returned last Friday from a visit with relatives in Florida.
