Campbellsville High School rode stellar performances from its seniors on Friday as the Eagles went on the road to get their first district win of the 2011 season, knocking off the Lynn Camp Wildcats 53-0.
CHS (4-4) scored early and often during the Wildcats’  homecoming game as senior signalcaller Josh Hicks got the party started with a 19-yard strike to fellow senior Dra Thornton for the Eagles’ first score.
Hicks was at it again in less than five minutes as he found senior Tyler Carson from nine yards out, pushing the CHS lead to 12-0.
Not to be outdone by his teammates, senior Alex Brunelle picked off an Aaron Mills pass and darted 38 yards early in the second quarter. Bradley Bates added the point after, extending the Eagle lead to 19-0.
Midway through the second period, Brunelle hauled in a 25-yard TD pass from Hicks and Bates added another PAT, giving the Eagles a 26-0 lead.
Hicks found Hughes late in the first half for a 26-yard tally and, with Bates kick, a 33-0 Eagle half-time advantage.
There was more of the same in the second half for the Eagles as Hicks found Carson and Hughes on gains of 21 and 10  yards, respectively, setting up a one-yard score by the CHS QB.
The Eagles added another score just seconds later as LCHS’ Tommy Hatfield coughed up the ball on the kick-off return and Brunelle plucked the ball out of the air and galloped 65 yards for his second non-offensive TD of the game. Bates connected on the point after, giving Campbellsville a 46-0 lead.
It was only fitting that another senior would add the finishing touches on an impressive performance by the Eagles when running back, Tashaun Hoskins jaunted 71 yards late in the third period for the Eagles’ final tally and Bates added his fifth PAT to close out the scoring.
The Eagle defense was just as impressive as the offense as it held Lynn Camp to two first downs for the game, with both coming late in the fourth.
CHS plays at Berea, a 20-14 overtime loser to Williamsburg, Friday with a home play-off game on the line.
