Who will Campbellsville City Council listen to - business interests or those interested in protecting the health of our workers? We'll find out in December when City Council next discusses a possible smoke-free law.
At issue are the perceptions that smoke-free laws are bad for business and that installing ventilation systems will reduce secondhand smoke exposure. On both counts, nothing could be further from the truth.
Study after study confirms that smoke-free laws are ultimately good for business because they help reduce health-related expenses for employees. Every legitimate, independent economic study of smoke-free laws show there is no negative impact on business. As for ventilation, there isn't a ventilation system available that completely eliminates exposure to secondhand smoke.
We don't need a watered down smoke-free law. Campbellsville City Council has a responsibility to protect the health of all workers. Please keep the law as strong as possible.
