With only days left until Christmas Eve, Santa is busy checking his list in preparation for his trip around the world.
Santa recently told Central Kentucky News-Journal staff members that letters, drawings and poems from children and adults are the best part of his holiday season. As always, the CKNJ will serve as a drop-off station for letters, drawings and poems to Santa this Christmas season.
And CKNJ staff members will take those items and publish them in a special section in the Thursday, Dec. 19, issue.
The deadline to submit letters, drawings and poems to be included in the section is Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 5 p.m.
Letters to Santa should be sent in care of the Central Kentucky News-Journal to P.O. Box 1138, Campbellsville, KY 42719.
Letters can also be emailed to email@example.com or dropped off at the CKNJ office at 200 Albion Way.
Poems and drawings can be submitted the same way.
Tomorrow's deadline will give newspaper staff members enough time to type the poems and letters before sending them on to the North Pole.
CKNJ staff members prefer that letters and poems be sent to them via email, if possible, to send directly to Santa, who likes to check his email, too.
As every year, the News-Journal's special section will be full of letters, colored drawings and Christmas poems. And prizes will be given to the best ones.
The boy and girl who write the best letter will receive $15. Second-place winners will get $10 and third-place winners will get $5.
All letters should include the child's name, gender, address, telephone number, age and his or her parents' names. Only children's names and ages will be included in the newspaper, however. The rest of the information is so News-Journal staff members can contact the coloring contest and letter writer winners.
For those who like to color, the News-Journal's coloring contest has a $25 grand prize to be given to the best picture colored by a child age 10 or younger. There will also be five $5 runner-up prizes.
The picture to color was published in the Thursday, Nov. 14, issue.
Those who like to write Christmas poetry can enter their work in the CKNJ's new Christmas poetry contest.
There are no age requirements for this contest and a $25 grand prize will be given to the best poem. Poems can be submitted the same as letters to Santa.
Those who are named winners of this year's coloring, letter and poetry contests can pick up their prizes at a special meet and greet reception with Santa on Thursday, Dec. 12, from 4 to 6 p.m.
Santa will come to the News-Journal office to meet and have photos taken with the winners, as well as visit with other local boys and girls in the community.
Santa's visit is free and open to the public. He recently told the CKNJ that it's a highlight of his Christmas season.
