Hello kids! Ho! Ho! Ho!

Are you getting excited? I certainly am, because Christmas is just around the corner.

I've started making my list and checking it twice, but I need your help. I need a letter from each of you telling me what you'd like to have this Christmas.

Reading letters from my little friends around the world is the best part of the holiday season. Your letters sure help the elves, too. It makes it much easier for them to load the sleigh with the right toys for the right girls and boys.

Besides letters, I love looking at your drawings. You are all so creative and talented.

As always, the Central Kentucky News-Journal is serving as my Taylor County headquarters. And the staff there is once again serving as honorary elves, collecting your letters and sending them to me.

Besides sending your letters to me, the News-Journal will publish its annual Christmas section filled with your letters to me. The News-Journal also posts them on its Web site at www.cknj.com.

Just send your letter to the newspaper office. You can e-mail it to editor@cknj.com or bring it by the office at 428 Woodlawn Ave. If you're mailing your letter, send it to Santa in care of the Central Kentucky News-Journal, P.O. Box 1138, Campbellsville, Ky. 42719.

If you get your letters and drawings to the News-Journal elves no later than 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1, as many as possible will be published in the special Christmas issue on Thursday, Dec. 18.

The News-Journal will also give prizes for the best writers. The boy and girl who write the best letter will receive $15. Second-place winners will get $10 and third-place winners will get $5.

There are a few rules to make sure that everyone has an equal chance to win.

- All letters must be written by children 12 years old or younger. Mom and Dad can help if you are especially young, but thoughts in the letter should be your own.

- The letters should be easy to read. Santa has glasses, but it's still hard for me to make out some of the writing.

- All letters must arrive at the newspaper no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 1. The newspaper elves must have time to type them and get them to me and I must have enough time to get all your gifts in order once I receive your letter.

- All letters should include your name, address, telephone number, age, your parents' names and the name of your school. Only your name and age will be included in the newspaper. The rest of the information is so that the News-Journal can contact you if you are a winner.

Girls and boys, I hope that's enough direction. I've got so much to do to get ready for my trip around the world.

Ho! Ho! Ho! Have a very Merry Christmas. I'll see you on Christmas Eve.
