Dr. Damon Allen of Campbellsville, an optometrist, was presented the Lifetime Optometric Achievement Award at the Kentucky Optometric Association's 106th Annual Spring Congress on April 24-27 at the Marriott Downtown Hotel in Louisville.

Allen was presented the first Optometric Lifetime Achievement Award.

Allen dedicated his life to optometry and at the age of 86 still sees patients a couple of days a month and never misses a KOA meeting or his local society meeting. He is the only person with the stamina to take on the presidency of the KOA three times, twice in the 1950s and again in the 1980s.

His involvement at every level of the profession has been extensive.

At the conference, Allen attended lectures on glaucoma, contact lenses, diabetes and dry eye therapy. In addition to four days of continuing education, the conference also included an exhibit hall featuring the latest products and services in optometry.

Allen has practiced optometry in Campbellsville for more than 50 years.
