Cox, Gumm combine for 49 in TC's out vs. Eagles

Taylor County broke away from an 8-8 tie and posted an easy 75-45 district victory against visiting cross-town rival Campbellsville on Tuesday night.

"I'm glad to get the good win," Cards' head coach Troy Young said. "But, the score is very deceiving. And, that sort of worries me the next time we play them."

Chase Cox (12) and Josh Gumm (11) combined for 23 first-half points and the Cardinals led 37-16 at the intermission.

Cox tallied 11 points in the third quarter while Gumm added four in the third and six more in the fourth frame. Cox finished with 28 points (five three-point baskets, five two-point buckets and 3-3 at the charity stripe) while Gumm totaled 21 points and Michael Coulter contributed eight and Shane Morris seven.

Taylor Cox led the Cardinals on the boards with 10 rebounds while Shane Morris had eight and Chase Cox had five defensive caroms.

Michael Coulter dished out eight assists and Gumm six.

Sophomore Bryton Taylor led the Eagles with 19 points, 13 in the second half, while Antwan Coulter added 13 and Thomas Downs eight.

Taylor County plays at Adair County tomorrow at 8 p.m. in the nightcap of a girl/boy doubleheader while Campbellsville plays at Meade County tomorrow and vs. Moore at Christian Academy on Saturday.
