A Columbia man has been arrested and charged after allegedly driving while intoxicated in Taylor County.

Brandon L. Skaggs, 33, of 64 Christine Sano Road, was arrested Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 8:16 p.m.

According to Skaggs' arrest citation, Campbellsville Police Department received a call reporting a possible DUI in the Dollar Tree parking lot on KY 210.

Upon having contact with Skaggs, Officer Ryan Jewell wrote in court records, Skaggs said he needed to change a tire on his vehicle and had pulled in the parking lot when another vehicle ran him off the road. Skaggs told Jewell he then struck the curb.

Records state Skaggs had red, blood shot eyes and smelled of alcohol. Skaggs allegedly told Jewell that he had consumed alcohol earlier in the day.

Skaggs failed several field sobriety tests and had a blood alcohol level of .1, higher than the legal limit of .08.

Skaggs was charged with DUI, his fourth offense. He pleaded not guilty to the charge in Taylor District Court on Oct. 22. He was appointed a public defender and bond was set at $1,000 cash. He was ordered to not consume any drugs or alcohol.

Last Wednesday, the charge was held to a Taylor County grand jury for possible indictment. Skaggs was also ordered to wear a SCRAM alcohol ankle monitor.
