Campbellsville students and residents pitched in on Saturday, Sept. 14, to help clean up Green River Lake.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, along with The Friends of Green River Lake, hosted the annual lakeshore cleanup at several sites near the lake.

GRL staff members have said this year's cleanup was one of the largest, with about 500 people pitching in to keep the lake clean. Anywhere from 200 to 300 people typically participate.

Many high school and Campbellsville University students, along with members of several clubs and organizations, participated.

More than 150 bags of trash, more than 30 tires, a television set and several large plastic and Styrofoam pieces were removed from the shoreline.

Those who participated in the cleanup saved the state park nearly $35,000, had they been paid for their work.
