The Central Kentucky News-Journal advertising and composition staffs won two awards in the recent Kentucky Press Association 2008 Advertising Excellence in Kentucky Newspapers contest.

Classified sales representative Kristie Campbell and graphic artist Wilma Abell won a second-place award for Best Classified Section/Page. Three issues from 2007 were judged on category layout, ad content and ease of readership.

Judges said, "Nice bold easy-to-read section titles; special sections; nice category index on front page of sections."

Retail sales representative Melissa Netherland and graphic artist Jeff Mardis won a third-place award in the Preprints/Special Publications category for an AutoSmart preprint advertisement. Judging criteria included design and advertising message.

Judges had this to say: "Patriotic graphic; appealing offers grab attention."
