The Central Kentucky Arts Series brought Eugene Ionesco's play "The Chairs" to Campbellsville last week.

The performance, part of CKAS' "Home Roots Series," brought Campbellsville native John Paul Davenport back to his hometown from Oxford, Miss. Three of Davenports students at Oxford High School performed in Campbellsville University's Theater, a theater Davenport himself performed on several times.

According to sparknotes.com, "The Chairs" is the story of a man and woman in their 90s. The couple tell each other stories of their lives while preparing for a professional Orator to come to their home and tell the man's story for him.

Numerous invisible guests arrive to hear the Orator, and the couple hurriedly sets a chair for each guest to sit in when they arrive. The man introduces the Orator and says he and his wife can now die happy because his message will be communicated by a professional speaker and his philosophy will soon be known to the universe.
