On Nov. 21-23, 17 Campbellsville High School students, along with advisers Herb Wiseman and Cindy Perkins, attended the 2010 Kentucky Youth Assembly at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Louisville and the State Capitol in Frankfort.
KYA is a three-day, hands-on experience of Kentucky's state government. It is a student-led conference in which teens experience first-hand what it's like to debate a bill in the Capitol chambers, run for state office or argue a case in the State Supreme Court. There were more than 1,000 students in attendance.
Three teams wrote bills. Emily Haley, Katelyn McMahan, Sienna Montgomery and Mollie Williams authored a bill that was passed. It was titled "An act to raise the qualification standards for receiving financial aid in Kentucky to ensure an equal opportunity to all students attending colleges and universities."
In addition, Cassidy Blair was given a prestigious Outstanding Speaker award.
