Cards post two wins around Adair loss

Taylor County High School's boys' hoop squad won a pair of games around a 20th District loss at Adair County.


The Cardinals fell to the Indians 64-54 in a make-up clash in Columbia on Monday.

Chase Cox and Lloyd Stotts hit a pair of free throws each to knot the score at 51-51 with 1:25 to play. However, Adair County used a Corey Helm lay-up, a three-point play from Darren Ballou and eight more free throws to post the triumph.

Chase Cox led Taylor County with 22 points while Leonard Macon had 13 and Michael Coulter 11.

Nick Fudge's 19 points led four Indians in double figures while Ballou and Helm had 15 apiece and Kyle Sandusky 10.

Adair County wrapped up the No. 1 seed and will face Marion County in the 20th District Tournament on the Indians' home court while Taylor County will battle cross-town rival Campbellsville in Columbia.

The Cardinals raced out to an 18-0 lead and blasted Barren County 77-32 on the road Saturday night.

Lloyd Stotts and Leonard Macon had 18 points apiece for TCHS while Chase Cox had 17.

On Tuesday, Taylor County used a 28-16 fourth quarter to pull away from homestanding Caverna 77-65.

Cox led the Cards with 35 points while Macon had 13 and Michael Coulter 10.

Taylor County plays at Marion County on Friday (8:00) and will entertain Christian County in a make-up game on Monday (varsity at 8).
