The Burley Tobacco Growers Cooperative is offering tobacco farmers a chance to showcase their tobacco production ideas with the Burley Tobacco New Idea Contest.
The contest seeks to spotlight innovative ideas in tobacco production that improve efficiency and save money for tobacco growers.
Tobacco farmers can submit their ideas for the contest to the Burley Tobacco Growers Cooperative. All entries must include a written description of the idea, explaining how the idea will improve efficiency and save money on the farm and a video showing how the innovation is used in a production operation.
The ideas will be judged by a jury of individuals including farmers, researchers and tobacco production specialists. The winner will be announced and the top three ideas will be presented by the farmer at the 2009 Tobacco Expo on Jan. 21 in Lexington.
The first place winner will receive $2,000; the second place will receive $1,500; and third place will receive $500.
