Burch earns Janice Holt Giles Award

Morgan Lourrae Burch has been selected as the recipient of the Janice Holt Giles Award.

This award is given annually to the young woman who is an outstanding junior student at Taylor County High School. The award is supported by the Giles Society and in addition to the recognition, the book, "Janice Holt Giles: A Writer's Life," is presented to the student.

Burch was selected because she excels in writing, is interested in Kentucky history and geography, is an avid reader, is planning to further her education and is a valuable member of the community.

Janice Holt Giles left a literary legacy not only for Kentuckians but for all people. Through her writing and through her own life, she revealed the characteristics of a strong person, and she remembered that there is good in everyone. She believed that literary works should reveal the splendor of the human heart.

It is in this spirit that the award is given to Burch. She exemplifies the characteristics that are found in the writings of Janice Holt Giles.

Burch is the daughter of Sami Jo and John Burch of Taylor County.
