Campbellsville City Council approved a 1 percent occupational tax during a special meeting Wednesday.
Saying the previously discussed rate of .75 percent would not be enough to meet City expenses, Councilman David Nunery made a motion to increase the rate to 1 percent.
The Council vote ended in a tie, forcing Mayor Brenda Allen to cast the tie-breaking "yes" vote.
Allen said the City has barely met payroll for the last three months. A rate of .75 percent would not improve the City's finances.
A second reading is scheduled for 8 a.m. Saturday in the City Council room above Campbellsville Police Department.
