Cards lose 6-4 in region's first round

By Bobby Brockman

Taylor County appeared in good shape needing only six outs to advance to the Fifth Region Tournament semi-finals on Monday.
However, Bethlehem had other ideas as the Eagles tallied five runs on four hits to pull out a 6-4 first-round triumph.
The Cardinals led 4-1 with a pair of runs in the first and fifth innings.
Will Hollingsworth, who paced coach Jeff Gumm’s club with three hits, singled and scored on Jason Reynolds’ double in the first. Tyler Frogge’s sacrifice fly made it 2-0.
After Bethlehem made it 2-1 in the fourth, Justice Gregory’s single started a Cardinal rally with one run scoring on a Bethlehem miscue and the other on a Hollingsworth safety. Gregory and Reynolds each had two hits for TCHS while Blake Caulk had the other Cards’ hit.
Bethlehem pinned the loss on senior Justin Hazel after the Cardinals had turned double plays to get out of other jams.
Taylor County finishes at 23-14 and loses five seniors to graduation.
