Bennett brilliant in Cards' triumph over Nelson

Senior right-hander Dustin Bennett pitched six shut-out innings and went 3-3 at the plate as Taylor County concluded regular-season baseball play with a 4-1 home-field triumph over Nelson County on Wednesday.
Bennett, who did not walk a batter, earned his ninth win by scattering three singles and a double for his ninth win in 10 decisions. Junior reliever Justin Hazel allowing a Nelson County run in the top of the seventh inning.
Bennett’s two singles and a double produced two Cardinal runs while Blake Dudgeon and Will Hollingsworth singled for the other two TCHS safeties.
Taylor County (25-11) plays Campbellsville (14-20-1) in the first round of the 20th District Tournament tonight (6:00) on Shaw Field.
Adair County plays Marion County in tomorrow’s second first-round tilt (6:00) with the championship slated for Wednesday at 6.
