Barren County broke away from a 6-6 half-time deadlock to upend the home-standing Taylor County Cardinals 40-12 on Friday night at Thomas Porter Stadium.
Taylor County (3-6) struck first when freshman Hunter Christie connected with Daulton Turpin on a 33-yard touchdown pass over the middle on the first play of the second quarter.
The Trojans (4-5) knotted the score with 1:58 left in the first half and then tacked on three third-quarter touchdowns and two fourth-frame tallies.
Taylor County did score in the fourth period when Cody Newton ran in from nine yards out with 6:43 left in the non-district contest.
Newton’s tally was set up by a Blake Dudgeon 57-yard run. Dudgeon finished the night with 147 yards on 11 carries.
Taylor County ends its season on Friday at Hart County (6-3).
