Taylor County’s Lady Cardinals fought back from a 12-point fourth-quarter deficit to take the lead over Adair County before falling 62-59 on Tuesday night.

The Lady Cardinals trailed 55-43 with 5:41 remaining in the contest when McKenzie Martin tallied for the visitors.

Hope Wigginton’s left-wing three-pointer, a Mercedes Cox base-line jumper and Wigginton’s right-wing three made it 55-51.

After a Katie Keltner free throw by the Lady Indians, Wigginton tallied on a lay-up and Elizabeth Thomas hit two free throws and a putback to put Taylor County up 57-56 with 1:41 remaining.

However, Adair County, which has won six of its last eight games, used a baseline jumper and two free throws by Chelsea Beard and a pair of Chanley Otterson’s charity tosses to improve to 13-6 overall (third best in the Fifth Region).

Wigginton finished with 23 points, Thomas 20 and Cox 12 for TCHS while Martin (19), Beard (16), Otterson (12) and Keltner (11) were in double digits for ACHS.

The Lady Cardinals (11-9) visit Russell County on Friday.
