The top two seeds in the 20th District Baseball Tournament padded their records at home on Thursday as Adair County whipped Taylor County 8-1 and Marion County edged Campbellsville 3-2
The top-seeded Indians rode the pitching arm of Zack Hutchison (complete game with six strike-outs and no walks while allowing only four hits) and two-hit games from Marshall Shelley and Ty Bennett to complete regular-season district play with a 6-0 worksheet.
Don Dabney had a triple for the Cardinals while Will Hollingsworth, Tyler Frogge and Hunter McQueary had singles.
Marion County scored single runs in the first, fifth and sixth while Campbellsville tied the game in the fifth, added a run in the seventh and had two runners on when the final batter was retired.
Robbie Spalding went the first 6 2/3 innings with Levi Haydon getting the save.
The Costello brothers, Joey and Michael, had runs batted in for the Knights.
Clayton Russell had two of the three Eagles’ three hits with Zach Durham getting the other safety.
In next month’s 20th District Tournament, Adair County will play Campbellsville with Marion County meeting Taylor County in the other first-round clash.
