Run-rule Russell County in first championship game, advance to state tournament this weekend in Prestonsburg

Campbellsville’s 11-year-old Little League All Stars made it three victories in as many tries with a 10-0, five-inning triumph over Russell County on July 9 in the District 5 Tournament at South Hardin in Cecilia.
Brennon Wheeler, who got the first-game victory over Russell County 10 days earlier, pitched the five shut-out innings to get the win for coach Garin Hash’s squad.
Russell County made it back to Campbellsville by upending Marion County, who Campbellsville had conquered for its second win.
He had 11 strikeouts while allowing only two walks and three hits.
 Wheeler also led the 13-hit attack with two singes and a double while John Orberson and Tre Goodin had two singles apiece and Arren Hash singled and doubled.
Jackson Herron added a triple to the Campbellsville offense while Dawson Cole, Nicholas Knifley and Wes Oliver had singles.
The 11s advance to the state tournament this weekend in Prestonsburg.
Pool play begins on Saturday with games also on Sunday and next Tuesday.
Campbellsville will play the District 4 and District 7 winners around a tilt vs. the District 7 runner-up. (The host district gets two teams in the state tournament.
The top two teams from each pool advance to next Wednesday’s semi-finals with the championship set for next Thursday.
