Bea Wethington of Chatham, La., formerly of Campbellsville, celebrated her 100th birthday on April 2.

She was given a party by her two daughters, Melva Beard of Chatham and Martha McCubbin of Campbellsville.

"I got close to 100 birthday cards," Wethington said by telephone. "I haven't counted them yet. Some of them even had notes in them."

Also visiting on her birthday were three grandchildren from Kentucky - Scott Beard, Terri Chandler and Connie Moyers - and two from Texas - Janie Hlavinka and Bernie Beard. In addition, nine great-grandchildren and two surprise guests attended, Lowell Stayton of Oklahoma and Pfc. Amanda Beard of California.

"All of my grandchildren but one came and all of my great-grandchildren but one came."

Wethington said she was "so very, very" surprised by the birthday party.

But due to poor health, she says with a laugh, "Don't wish me too many more."
