At first, they might do it for an adrenaline rush. But officials say EMS workers stick with the job because it lets them help people.
This week, communities recognize their EMS workers as part of National Emergency Medical Services Week.
Taylor County is home to many EMS personnel who put themselves in harm’s way to help others on what could likely be the worst day of their lives. Local officials say working in the EMS field isn't for everyone, and those who do it don't take the job to make money.

The goal is simple — one person, changing one life, in one day.
Those looking for a way to give back to the community are in luck. An effort is in the works to “Impact Taylor County.”
The second annual event, organized by local United Methodist churches, will have a grove of volunteers doing random acts of kindness and performing service projects around the county on April 27, from small home repairs to food drives and clothing giveaways.

Plans are in the works to begin selling alcohol at Campbellsville Country Club.
And Campbellsville City Council members are expected to take the first step to making that a reality tonight.
In January, voters in the New North precinct were asked to vote “Yes” or “No” to the question, “Are you in favor of the sale of alcoholic beverages by the drink at Campbellsville Country Club in the New North precinct of Taylor County, Ky.?”
Voters approved the measure by a 60 to 40 percent margin.

They want to help, and they hope the community will, too.
Taylor County Bank employees have begun a drive to collect items to send to Taylor County soldiers serving overseas.
Employees will collect care package items throughout the month of April, in hopes of mailing them around Memorial Day.
Jennifer Johnson, assistant vice president, said the idea for a care package drive came from bank staff members wanting to help one of their fellow employees, whose husband is overseas.
“So, we got to thinking how we can help,” she said.

I'm thinking about starting a nonprofit organization for all the people who perform acts of kindness and don't want to be thanked for doing them. Maybe I'll name it "Grace-Givers Anonymous."
