Reader wants park operated by private company
I wonder if anyone has ever thought of privatizing Miller Park. I say this from strictly an economic angle.
The park costs the city money, about $250,000 per year, unless the budget is amended to cover said costs. By cutting the budget by $250,000, economic stimulus would soon follow.

County to contribute $10,000 to renaissance efforts
The county will once again contribute $10,000 to renaissance efforts in the community for next fiscal year. That contribution, however, isn’t finalized until magistrates give final approval to the county’s 2013-2014 budget.
Downtown business owners came to Tuesday’s regular meeting of the Taylor County Fiscal Court to ask that magistrates continue supporting them. This year’s contribution to renaissance, which is also $10,000, was discussed at a meeting of the county’s Budgets, Audits and Personnel Committee last month.

Treasure hunt saves city money
It has often been said, “One man’s junk is another man’s treasure.” Now that spring has arrived, the presence of yard and garage sales abound. Every day, faithful shoppers and bargain hunters scour the highways and byways searching for “deals.”
During the past 10 months, the Campbellsville Police have engaged in their own bargain hunting.

City plans 2-percent pay raise for full-time employees
A 2-percent raise for full-time city employees and those who work at Campbellsville Water and Sewer Co. is included in the city’s 2013-2014 budget.
Members had first reading of the budget at the City Council’s regular meeting on Monday.
According to Campbellsville Mayor Tony Young, raises for city employees will cost about $90,000, and raises for water company staff members will cost about $26,000.
Young said there will not be raises for the city’s part-time employees.

Resident upset about Taylor superintendent's contract
Can the taxpayers of Taylor County afford to give Roger Cook a $40,000 increase in his salary? No superintendent in the Taylor County school system has ever come close to $160,000 per year salary.
Mr. Davis, the board chairman, said it was not an increase of $40,000, but any way you add it up, the difference between $160,000 and $120,000 is $40,000, according to my Taylor County school education. I think if Mr. Cook were to ask Mr. Davis to jump over Niagara Falls in a barrel, he would run for the Canadian border.
