Coming into office, I had no plans to create any new debt for the city.
Purchasing land for a new park was definitely not my intention. At first, I did not even want to discuss the issue. I simply did not feel the purchase would be a wise decision.
However, an opportunity arose that I felt could better our community for many years to come, and as new information emerged, my interest in the purchase grew.

Work to build the city a new 1-million-gallon water tank near the new industrial park should begin this summer.
At Monday night’s Campbellsville City Council meeting, Council members approved a resolution accepting a $1.6 million USDA loan and a $550,000 USDA grant, a resolution giving Campbellsville Mayor Tony Young authority to execute the necessary steps to build the tank and a resolution adopting environmental mitigation measures in relation to constructing the tank. The vote on all resolutions was unanimous. Councilwoman Patti Phillips did not attend the meeting.

I am writing this letter about a letter to the editor that was in the paper about the SPCA that [Cathy Harker] made a comment that Taylor County is not allowing cruelty to animals. They were found not guilty. They also have a committee that oversees this.
I am an animal lover, too, but because of one rumor that got started, then it is all blamed on Taylor County because somebody was upset.

The county is set to take over the city’s recycling center in July, but it’s top official says he isn’t quite sure that’s a good financial move.
Taylor County Judge/Executive Eddie Rogers told magistrates at Tuesday’s regular Taylor County Fiscal Court meeting that he has some concerns about the move.
Rogers said revenue from the recycling center is about $27,000 a year, which he said likely won’t pay for more than a minimum wage employee’s salary and benefits.

The divide between Taylor County Fiscal Court and members of the local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is likely greater now than ever before. And, frankly, we understand why.
In December, magistrates voted to revive the defunct Animal Control Board, inviting two SPCA members to join. This agreement was spurred by the allegations of abuse at Taylor County Animal Shelter. Those allegations have since been proven false following a state investigation.

Campbellsville Mayor Tony Young will recommend that the city contract with CodeRED to provide emergency weather alerts in Taylor County.
Discussion about the CodeRED weather system began at the last Campbellsville City Council meeting in January. After some discussion, however, the Council tabled discussion of a contract with CodeRED until its next meeting.
