There used to be a saying that if you were out of state and murdered someone, be sure to get rid of the body in Kentucky. Local law enforcement officials, with their limited resources, not to mention competency, would never solve it. Sure enough, over the years bodies were deposited in Kentucky and their killers were never found. In some cases, it took decades just to identify the victim.

The majority of the special districts in Taylor County are compliant with state regulations, a recent state audit has found.
State Auditor Adam Edelen recently unveiled a public database and report about the districts. In a news release, he states that the special districts represent a $2.7 billion layer of state government that he believes have operated in shadows for decades.

It will be a bit more difficult for drug producers to get their hands on large amounts of a product needed to make methamphetamine, thanks to a law that goes into effect today.
Also in measures that become law today, passengers in large vans are no longer exempt from wearing a seat belt and thieves won't be able to sell stolen copper and other materials for quick cash at recycling centers.
Another bill allows Kentuckians to carry concealed weapons without a license on their property or place of business.

I just read the article about the city approving a policy limiting employee social media use. I found many components of the “policy” interesting.
For instance, a city employee posting a complaint about someone (i.e. a supervisor) or an issue within the city could result in disciplinary action. City Attorney John Miller said he believes the policy states that, “posting that information would be inappropriate.”

The most famous horse race in the world will take place in Louisville on Saturday, and because of it, there will be plenty of people at Churchill Downs eating, drinking and enjoying the atmosphere. Oh, and you can bet many of them will be there to gamble.
That got us thinking about how gambling is viewed in Kentucky, and how our legislators will not let Kentuckians make up their own minds about casinos and other forms of expanded gaming.

In the April 2 newspaper, under the Local Briefs section, there was an article about the anti-meth bill that is in the process of being passed. I feel that the Local Brief section gives a positive impact to the newspaper by educating the readers about what is happening with the government.
