It’s all about helping people and bringing them closer to God.
A group of local residents has banned together to open a free clothing store for those in need. And, tomorrow, their labor will come to fruition.

Casey West wanted her baby girl to have the things she needed. But, it seemed circumstances were against her.
West’s husband, Richard, was laid off from Cox Interior. He was rehired, she said, and then let go again. Shortly after, West’s doctors told her she should be expecting her baby girl any day.

Hopes are that this Saturday’s Hearts To Help food pantry benefit becomes an annual event.
“I would love to see this become an annual fundraiser for the food pantry,” said event organizer Gail Godsey. “Christmas is a time of giving, and what better way to launch the Christmas season than giving to our neighbors?”
Godsey contacted Taylor County Food Pantry volunteer Marietta Moyers in August after reading a Central Kentucky News-Journal article about costs being up, while donations were down at the food pantry.

Latisha Grant needed help.
“I’m a full time college student, unemployed, with two children under 10 and I’m a single mother,” Grant said.
Extra money, as well as free time, is a luxury Grant doesn’t have. And when the winter heating bills began rolling in, Grant wasn’t sure how she’d pay them.
Then she heard about the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, which is administered locally through Lake Cumberland Community Action Agency.

On Wednesday, Oct. 5, my 24-year-old niece went to the Kroger pharmacy in the Green River Plaza with her grandmother to get their annual flu shot.
After receiving the shot, my niece shopped for a few minutes and then suddenly became ill. She almost passed out as her sugar level dropped dangerously low.
